Welcome Back Gallivanters!
If you’re anything like me, when the show, “Bridgerton” came out on Netflix, you suddenly had the desire to buy an outrageous feathered fan for flirtation, only listen to classical covers of pop music, and spend your afternoon at the racetrack wearing your best fascinator and floral smock.
Some of those are socially unacceptable, but who are we to maintain social graces?
I’ve said before that as a girl from a small town in Kentucky, I’ve had insatiable wanderlust from the jump. That being said, Kentucky has a unique culture worthy of exploring all its own.
My old Kentucky home has a rich history in horse racing and breeding. One of the Queen of England’s rare excursions later in her life was to attend the annual Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs Racetrack in Louisville, KY.
The greatest horses may end up at the Kentucky Derby in Louisville, but they are born and raised in Lexington, KY.
Lexington, Kentucky is known for its expansive horse farms and thoroughbred racetracks like Keeneland, which I got to attend for the first time last weekend.
Even though I am a Kentucky native, I hadn’t explored what fun was right there in my backyard.
Betting on horses and formal dress codes that include “hat-inators”? Now that is my kind of fun.
It just goes to show that as a Gallivanter, it is your duty to go and see the world, but not to forget where you come from and write-off what your home has to offer the world.
Unlike my younger self, I am now a firm believer that there is no such thing as a place in this world where there is, “nothing to do there.”
Trust that I will find something.
That’s all folks!
I would love to hear from you all in the comments where you are from, along with something unique to do there. I may be persuaded to plan a trip!
