Welcome back Gallivanters!
All my Full-Time Equivalents, today I write to you.
I know that after clocking out and heading home for the day, its all you can do to commute home, eat dinner, and go horizontal until doing it all again the next day.
Did you know that the average person will spend 90,000 hours at work? That’s the same as 10 years! Not including overtime…
But we Gallivanters don’t just live for the weekend, we want to make the most out of our days in order to make the most out of our lives.
So today, I wanted to share some unique, after-work hobbies you may enjoy to reclaim some of the hours in your day and reenergize.
1. Gardening
Gardening can be a great way to spend your time after work, especially if you spend most of your day sedentary at your desk, staring at a screen.
It offers you a chance to finally get outside and do work you will get to harvest in the future.
2. Recipe Development
A personal favorite hobby of mine, recipe development is keeping track of each pinch of this, dash of that put in your favorite meals.
Get a fancy notebook or even start a Word doc on your personal computer to start developing your own recipes – something your future children and grandchildren will thank you for!
3. Gaming
Remember how much fun desktop computer games were? Well there are still communities of people who have continued their love of video games on both console and PCs.
Playing a few rounds of fortnight with a group of friends online can feel like an accomplishment – as well as stress relief!
4. Writing
Writing is a way to get your all-consuming after-work thoughts out of your head and onto a page. You can write in a journal, on Facebook, or even on a blog!
Write reviews on movies, write out your feelings, and write things you will find funny later. Write whatever you want, you might just surprise yourself with what was waiting to leave your subconscious and find a platform.
5. Kickboxing
Kickboxing is just an example of a physical activity I had never tried before I started working.
Frankly, it’s hard making friends as an adult who aren’t your coworkers and who aren’t your old classmates.
Try something unique like kickboxing, rock climbing, underwater basket weaving, etc., and unlock a whole new group of people you may want to be friends with!
6. Reading Challenges
Tired of social interaction after a day at work? Same!
We all know reading is a great hobby, but what if you took on reading challenges after work?
You may find a thrill in finishing a book in an afternoon, or maybe even two. Track your progress using the app GoodReads.
I hope you’ve found a new hobby to try in order to reclaim your day.
Trying new things may make your evenings more enjoyable and your time after work fulfilling.
Happy Hobbying!
-Allison
