Welcome back Gallivanters!
I’m writing to you in the midst of unpacking and multiple loads of laundry, because I just got back from my recent trip to Puerto Rico!
My girlfriends and I had an amazing time on our spring break getaway to the U.S. territory, and I wanted to share some of what we did during our stay.
Without further ado, let’s spend a day in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Breakfast – Spiga Cafe
258 C. de San Justo, San Juan, 00901, Puerto Rico
Let’s start our day in Old San Juan by grabbing a quick pastry from Spiga, a lovely cafe in the heart of the city.
I highly recommend getting the sweet brioche buns, both the dark chocolate and guava rolls were excellent.

Coffee – Don Ruiz Roastery
Norzagaray St, San Juan, PR 00901, Puerto Rico
But first (our secondly) coffee.
The Don Ruiz Roastery, located in the Museo De Las Americas is a perfect spot to stop for coffee and appreciate the incredible architecture in San Juan.
Grab a coffee, or try the Mallorca – because we aren’t counting our pastries on vacation.

Art – Museo De Las Americas and Museo De San Juan
Norzagaray St, San Juan, PR 00901, Puerto Rico
150 Calle Norzagaray, San Juan, PR 00901, Puerto Rico
During our trip, we stopped at both the Museo de Las Americas and the Museo de San Juan.
Both museums highlighted the history of Puerto Rico through mediums such as paintings, sculptures, photography, and complex installations that rotate seasonally.
During our visit, we even got to attend the opening event for the “Redux” exhibit at the Museo de Las Americas, which presents over five decades of work by Héctor Méndez Caratini.

Historical Architecture – Castillo San Felipe del Morro and Castillo San Cristobal
Castillo San Felipe del Morro San Juan, PR 00901, Puerto Rico
501 Norzagaray Street, San Juan, PR 00901, Puerto Rico
Next, let’s take in some incredible fews of both the city and the sea atop Castillo San Felipe del Morro, also known as El Morro.
I’d recommend booking a guided tour in order to get the most out of your visit in order to learn more about the history, but Discover Puerto Rico also has a spotify playlist that acts as a listen along guided tour.
Pro tip: your ticket for El Morro will also get you admission to Castillo San Cristobal, another historic fort located on the other end of the city wall.
Dinner – Barrachina
104 Fortaleza, Old San Juan, PR 00901, Puerto Rico
After a long day of art appreciation and historical walking tours, let’s end our day with dinner at Barrachina.
Barrachina claims to be the birthplace of the Pina Colada, but also offers tourists a chance to try traditional Puerto Rican cuisine.
Either way, dinner at Barrachina was a perfect way to end our trip to Puerto Rico.

Thanks for checking out the blog Gallivanters!
I hope you enjoyed our day together in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
I’m already planning my next trip back, and I hope you are ready to come back with me!
