Welcome back Gallivanters!
If you’re anything like me, you are on your second (or third) rewatch of With Love, Meghan.
The Netflix series taking over the internet stars Meghan Markle as she gathers with her close friends and family sharing all the tips and tricks for cooking, beautifying and hosting.
For those that have been in the blogging world, the show is reminiscent of The Duchess of Sussex’s own blog, The Tig, that has since been retired.
The show, which aims to inspire viewers to open their doors wide and welcome their owned loved ones into their space, has inspired me too.
So today, I had come up with some of my own tips for hosting your home – like a duchess.
Living Room
As the entry to most homes, starting in the living rooms seems most fitting.
It’s the first part of your home guests are greeted by, so it should be just as welcoming as you are.
I think plants and florals say “Welcome” best. I love the look of snake plants, while fiddle-leaf figs act as natural air purifiers.
Bouquets, which can feel fanciful, can be as economical as $5 at most grocery stores, and really elevate an entryway.
Tips:
- Don’t use traditional glass vases, try translucent/colorful vases as to not reveal old, dirty water.
- Mix fake flowers/greenery with smaller, cheap bouquets to create fuller arrangements for half the price
Kitchen
I take feeding and nourishing others very personally.
I love to cook and try new recipes, but I love even more sharing those meals with others.
There is no better feeling than preparing a meal for others, except maybe the feeling of when they go back for seconds.
Tips:
- Homemade pasta is as impressive as it is easy. Use a 3:4 ratio of flour to eggs, and the next thing you know you have pasta dough. Go through the process with your guest for a fun activity, or prepare the dough in advance and allow your guest to help pick the shape.
- Use the fancy dishes. Even if you aren’t hosting an entire dinner party, don’t wait to use the fancy dishes. Even if you just got take out for yourself, use the fancy dishes!
Bathroom
After your guest’s day of traveling, and long afternoon of catching up and making pasta from scratch, I’m sure they are ready to relax and unwind.
The bathroom. Sacred space. One very long, steaming hot, everything shower.
Tips:
- Hang Eucalyptus around the shower head to create your own steam room for the at home spa experience.
- Providing your guest with their own robe during their stay can be such a unique and thoughtful touch, but it doesn’t have to break the bank. This waffle-knit robe from H&M is the perfect cozy choice without the luxury tag.
Bedroom
The majority of the time your guest is visiting you, will probably be spent as they sleep.
With that being said, it may be the most important aspect to consider while hosting.
Tips:
- Use an oversized duvet over your guest room’s comforter to give it that same hotel feeling.
- Put a quilt between the top sheet and duvet for extra warmth and coziness.
- Sometimes after an eventful day, I need for forcibly wind down, I love to use Dr. Teal’s Aromatherapy Wellness Spray for Sleep all over the room, especially on the pillows before bed.
Thank you so much for checking out today’s blog.
I hope you enjoyed and are as inspired as I am to host your next guest!
Stop by anytime,
-Allison
