Doing the Big, Scary Thing

Welcome Back Gallivanter!

If you are reading this: do the big scary thing.

If you are wondering what I mean, I am talking about that thing you just thought about…

No, not the spiders or snakes or jumping out of planes – that other thing you thought about.

I’m talking about the job, the conversation, the person…

You may think, “The thought of that does scare me, even if I don’t know why.”

Well, the reason that thing scares you is because it’s right out of your comfort zone.

But… just because it scares you, doesn’t always mean that you shouldn’t do it.

Always trust your intuition, but consider that our brains are designed to protect us from harm.

It’s built into the fabric of who we are as humans.

Over the years, our brains figured out ways to not only avoid physical harm, but emotional harm as well.

This might look like never taking swings just because we’ll think we might miss. Never asking that person out for fear of getting rejected. Holding back our inner thoughts and jokes out of fear that they won’t land.

The big, scary thing…is actually the very thing we should be doing. Nine times out of Ten.

Why? Because the edge of the fear is our comfort zone, and beyond our comfort zone is where the magic that is possible for us lives.

I’m doing some big scary things this year, and I hope I can report back of how not scary it all was after all.

So tell me, what big scary thing are you going to do this year?

Til next time,

-Allison
