What I’m Packing for Africa!

Jambo Gallivanters!

I know I have been a bit M.I.A. lately…

But I have been preparing and planning for the trip of a lifetime: Africa!

I’ll be gone about two weeks, most of which will be spent journeying from one place to another on red eyes.

The logistics of getting to Africa and back have taken an immense amount of planning…and packing!

So without further ado, here is what I am packing for Africa!

Medication

Step #1 when traveling abroad, especially to a new continent like Africa, is doing your research. For the countries I’m visiting, I need certain vaccines and boosters. What I know most people will need are malaria prophylactics and anti-nausea meds for the bumpy game rides. Always pack your prescription medications in their original packaging and other useful over the counter meds you can think of.

Neutral Outfits

In all my research (Instagram stalking other travelers), I thought the beige outfits were just for the aesthetics- but no! Neutral attire is to better blend in with your surroundings as to not scare off the wildlife, as well as to keep cool. I am packing a hat to cover my head from the sun, shades, and mostly green, white and brown clothing to blend in and stay cute!

Universal Charging Outlet

If you’re anything like me, my phone needs charged 24/7 for all of the wildlife photography so you will need an outlet adapter. I got mine on Amazon and it has been useful tool for all my trips abroad, I highly recommend!

Binoculars

I’m heading to Africa for a Safari, and I don’t intend on getting ooohh so close to the wild life. I am bringing binoculars to see animals up close, while staying farrr away. I think they will prove to be one of the best items I’m packing, so don’t forget yours!

DEET Spray

Speaking of animals, the little ones that bite aren’t invited to the party.

You can find DEET spray at Walmart to spray on your clothes and it should help prevent mosquito bites. I also plan on tall socks and hiking boots, but I was also told that would be an extra step alongside the DEET spray.

Snacks!

I’ll be gone for almost two weeks, I don’t think I’ve ever gone that long without a pop tart. I was also told to bring Pringle’s to help with any stomach upset, so I’m trusting science and loading up. I’ll also purchase a few bottles of water at the airport and other snacks that will stay good in different temperatures.

Luggage

I’ll be flying a few different airlines, so I was told a soft-sided luggage/duffle would be best. I will be lugging most of it myself half-way across the world, so I definitely want something comfortable to carry. This one matches my knock off Lechampe bag from Walmart and I think it’ll be great to hold all of the above.

Well folks, the next time you hear from me I’ll be in the middle of my trip.

Wish me luck!
